A Rainy Seattle Courthouse Elopement with Katie and Daniel

Katie and Daniel’s Seattle Courthouse Elopement was proof that a little rain can make a wedding day feel even more cinematic. Although Seattle’s weather offered a steady fall of rain, they chose to embrace it rather than wait for it to pass. As a result, their intimate celebration felt unmistakably true to the city they were calling home for this season.

Daniel is a traveling nurse, and the two were only in Seattle for a few months. Therefore, their wedding day carried an especially meaningful sense of timing. They wanted to mark this chapter together before their next adventure began, and the Seattle Courthouse offered the perfect setting for a simple, heartfelt ceremony.

Saying “I Do” Under the Rain on the Rooftop

Instead of moving their ceremony indoors, Katie and Daniel took our advice and married on the courthouse rooftop beneath the falling rain. The city skyline, soft gray skies, and quiet rain created a romantic backdrop that could not have been recreated on a sunny day.

They held each other close, laughed through the raindrops, and stayed fully present in the moment. Meanwhile, we photographed every part of their ceremony on both film and digital. Film added a soft, nostalgic texture to the day, while digital allowed us to capture every fast-moving moment as the weather shifted around us.

As a Seattle elopement Photographer, I always encourage couples to stay open to the weather. Rain can create movement, reflection, intimacy, and a sense of atmosphere that feels deeply connected to Seattle. In other words, it does not have to be something to work around. It can become one of the most beautiful parts of the story.

Covered Pioneer Square Locations for Rainy-Day Photos

After their Seattle Courthouse Elopement, we headed toward Pioneer Square for portraits. Because we know the area well, we were able to bring Katie and Daniel to several covered locations that still felt distinctly Seattle.

We photographed them around the historic architecture near Smith Tower, where the sheltered spaces gave us beautiful light and texture without asking them to stand in the rain the entire time. Then, we continued to the Arctic Club, another favorite location for rainy-day portraits. Its dramatic exterior and timeless details added a refined, old-world feeling to their photos.

The rain followed us throughout the afternoon; however, it only made the city feel more romantic. Wet sidewalks reflected the surrounding buildings, umbrellas became part of the story, and every quiet moment between them felt even more intimate against the soft Seattle drizzle.

A Seattle Elopement Filled with Meaning

Katie and Daniel did not need a long guest list or a perfect forecast to create a meaningful wedding day. Instead, they chose each other, embraced the rain, and made space for a celebration that felt personal to them.

Their Seattle Courthouse Elopement was simple, emotional, and full of movement. From their rooftop vows beneath the rain to their Pioneer Square portraits near Smith Tower and the Arctic Club, every part of the day reflected the beauty of choosing the unexpected.

If you are planning an intimate wedding and looking for a Seattle elopement Photographer, do not be afraid of a rainy forecast. With the right locations, a flexible plan, and a willingness to lean into the weather, rain can make your wedding photos feel even more romantic, timeless, and uniquely Seattle.
