Some weddings stay with you—not just because of the beauty or the details, but because of the people, the warmth, and the way everything feels exactly as it should be. That was Alex and Emily’s Villa Montalvo wedding. A day full of intentional design, deep family connection, and timeless beauty captured entirely on film.
When I arrived at the Villa Montalvo Historic Arts Center in Saratoga, California, I knew this wedding was going to be something special. The venue itself is a dream for any photographer: historic architecture, lush gardens, and that golden California light that dances perfectly on film. With Alex and Emily, the setting was only the beginning.
Emily wore a stunning light blue gown by Leanne Marshall that floated like watercolor in motion. It wasn’t just beautiful—it was bold in the most graceful way, a personal expression that made the whole day feel more intimate and true to who they are. The color choice was echoed throughout the design of the day for this Villa Montalvo wedding. Soft light blue and citrus lemon accents woven into florals, table settings, even the paper goods. It created a palette that felt fresh, joyful, and a little bit whimsical—perfectly reflecting Emily’s creative spirit and the bright energy she and Alex share together.
We chose to do portraits in the Italian Garden for this Villa Montalvo wedding. This space is both structured and wild, filled with light and texture. Shooting on film here was magic. There’s something about how film renders light and color. It brought out every subtle hue in Emily’s dress along with the warm tones of Alex’s suit, and the sun filtering through the trees. Every frame felt like a painting. We didn’t rush it. Alex and Emily were present, laughing, soaking it in, therefore there was no hurry—just the two of them and the moment.
Family wasn’t just a part of the day—it was the foundation. From the moment the heirloom jewelry was fastened to the heartfelt toasts shared at the reception. Every detail reflected deep-rooted connection. You could see it in the long, lingering hugs, the proud tears that welled up during the ceremony, and the unfiltered laughter that echoed through dinner. These moments didn’t just happen—they spoke volumes. And this is exactly why I love photographing weddings: because at the heart of every celebration is a powerful story of people coming together.
Every detail of this Villa Montalvo wedding flowed effortlessly, thanks to the incredible work of Christine from CMG Events. Her thoughtful planning and calm presence allowed everything—and everyone—to shine. Christine had a vision that honored Alex and Emily’s style while making space for organic, heartfelt moments. The balance of design and emotion was just right, and it was a true joy to work alongside her. To see a beautiful shoot I did with CMG at the Feneys Mansion in Pasadena click here.
Alex and Emily’s Villa Montalvo wedding wasn’t just beautiful—it was meaningful, creative, and full of heart. I’m so grateful to have been the one to document it. These are the weddings that remind me why I do what I do.
