Seattle Engagement Photos – Spring at the Washington Park Arboretum

Seattle Engagement Photos at the Washington Park Arboretum never disappoint ! As a Seattle Film Photographer It is hands down my favorite Spring Engagement Photo Location. When Blake and Sarah saw a previous shoot we had done at this location, they were set on it. They consulted me on their wardrobe choices (which I always love and welcome) and we picked out two great looks to compliment the season. I really loved her strappy sandals ! So dainty and delicate and really looked sweet amongst those fields of daisies.

I used all Portra 400 for this engagement session and had the photos developed at Photovision. We started near one of the beautiful blossoming trees, walked the pathways of the garden, visited the historic and iconic “bridge” and then ended our session with them laying in the daisy clustered grass. They had the best chemistry with each other and were so fun and playful.

The best recipe for a successful engagement session is 1. good light 2. good outfits 3. chemistry between you and your fiancé 🙂 (and trust in your photographer). With those four things you cannot go wrong. I really cant stress how much wardrobe can affect your photos though ! So please always ask if your unsure about something you had in mind to wear ! I will gladly help guide you. Here is a link to a Pinterest board for some more wardrobe inspiration ! Tips for planning spring engagement photos in Seattle:

My number one tip for spring shoots is to have a flexible calendar. One day it may say sunshine on your shoot day then that morning it can start pouring rain. If you set aside a few alternate days that you can last minute switch to then you will have a higher chance of getting this sort of beautiful spring light ! Yes you can shoot on overcast days and yes its technically “easier” for some photographers. But when you know light and you know how to shoot in it, it simply can’t be beat !

Sarah and Blake did such a great job listening to direction but also being in the moment with each other. They had fun and didn’t worry too much about how it was looking. They were willing to lay in the grass when I asked and willing to do things they may usually find silly, like spinning and dancing with each other in a public park. Sometimes during an engagement session we will ask you to do things that may seem weird at first but trust me there is always a reason or a specific photo in mind.
